These Days, Buying American Means Buying a Tesla
With the 4th of July right around the corner, it feels pretty appropriate to give a star-spangled high five to auto manufacturers still making vehicles in the good ol’ US of A. Recently, Cars.com released a study which caught a great deal of attention because, for the first time, the Tesla Model 3 topped the American Made Index (AMI). Not a Ford pickup or a muscly Dodge SRT Scat Pack something or other–the Model 3! It is also important to note that this is the first time an EV has topped the list. Oh, and by the way, the Model Y came in third.
The American-Made Index (AMI) takes into account a number of factors. This includes where the parts are sourced from, country of origin of all the engine & transmission options, the location of the vehicle’s final assembly and the US workforce in the vehicle manufacturing process. Based on the above factors, each car is scored out of a 100 points.
